Therapeutic Photography

Healing Through Story - Counselling & Photography

From personal experience when recovering from Complex PTSD, I made use of photography by taking selfies and creating portraits of myself and others to express how I was feeling when there just weren't the words to describe the feelings. I help my Clients to reclaim their stories through traditional counselling combined with therapeutic photography.

With over 30 years of professional experience behind the camera, spending time capturing people's essence through portraits, I saw how photography, when offered safely and respectfully, could become a powerful healing tool - a way to feel seen without needing to explain everything. This insight led me to counselling, where I now combine my therapeutic training with my creative work to support those navigating long-term trauma recovery.

Alongside traditional counselling, l offer creative counselling and photography as gentle, empowering tools for self-expression and reclaiming your story.

Creative Photography Session

Portraits with purpose

For some clients, photography becomes a part of their therapeutic process - an optional, creative way to explore your identity, visibility, and healing. These sessions are always guided by consent and safety. I would need to visualise what it is you are wanting to create and plan this with you throughout a number of sessions, with the aim of booking a double session to create your image. This is so that I can be sure you are safely grounded after your session, as you will find these creative sessions can go very deep. I am a natural light photographer, so we will plan to hold your photography session during daylight hours. The process and reflection sessions are held in the weeks before and after your photography session during which time you will be fully supported.

We can create images similar to the ones you see here, or what it looks like for you to be struggling and living with a mental illness or psychological injury, or simply what it means to be you and show how you feel!
